Stepping into the RV

During our first six months, we enjoyed a wooden deck (that my husband made). It was great because I have some balance probblems and trying to get on board with the 5th wheel which the nonlevel grounds leaves higher in the air, I've had a few "flights" off the landing pad. However, now that we have moved out into the 'cold real world of fulltiming', our RV Park does not allow such frivalties as entryway steps, etc. (unless you are an amputee)-- but we have enough other amenities to keep us here rather than bug out (ie. indoor year round pool and spa). In either Hiways or Trailer Life we'd seen an advertisement for a metal steps that were assembled to create a small porch area prior to entering your RV. Does anybody remember where we might have seen that or know who might make it? Thank you all and happy RVing!

De-Humidifiers -- Electric???

Need more advice. We've been told by an old salty (4 year fulltimer) we need to get an electric de-humidifier, but they are not easy to come by and are rather large for small space areas! In our home, we'd used the ones that soak up liquid (non-electric) but when it got accidentally knocked over (by the cat--who is now dead) it seriously stained and ruined everything it touched. What do you'all think? Thanks again for all of your help! Ed & Pat

Check List for Moving Out After 5-Months in One Place??

I need the advice of all of you. We're brand new (well 5 months ago) full-timers. We're "moving on" and would like to hear what you'all would do to prepare the trailer. THANKS! Ed & Pat

RE: Advice on After Market Vacuum

So it sounds as if the Dirt Devil is as good as any at this point.Know of any particular outlets for it? Is Camping World?

RE: Advice on After Market Vacuum

Thanks for all your posts! Now I'm really confused - but more edcated in the process. In the 70ish/80ish time frame when the NEW handheld Dirt Devil hit the scene and was the all popular thing to have, we found it to be less than satifactory. So we are leary of the Dirt Devil name. Since we full-time, I try to vacuum very well at east once everyth other week if not more. But I'm using 5th wheel -- heavy -carry from truck storage to place of vaCUUMIG each time. It almost sounds like the built-in isn't that great except to save a little space. Do I have the right idea? Thanks, Pat

Advice on After Market Vacuum

Does anyone have any knowledge, information or experience with the interVac Vacuum System ($279). We're full-time in a 30' Arctic Fox 5th wheel. Thanks!

Dehumidifiers?

We're new to full-timing (about 1-1/2 months). Our neighbors -- who are great have been doing this much longer (4 years). They HIGHLY recommended a dehumidifier. We live in the Pacific Northwest and will be here for awhile. We have a 30' Arctic Fox. Any thoughts on 1) what size we might need; and 2) where they are available that are reasonably priced. Thanks!

RV Vacuums?

What's the best, strongest, most durable vacuum that requires the least amount of space in the RV and isn't so heavy I can't lift it or would require us to upgrade our tow vehicle:)! Oh, yeah... and of course is economical. Thank you!

Stabilizing Side-to-Side Moving in Full-Timer

We went "full time" just two weeks ago and have selected to stay a few months at one location - possibly longer. With the help of some great new 5th wheel neighbors, we have leveled our unit quite well. There is still some movement side-to-side as we walk about the RV. What is the best way to cut down that movement as much as possible? Thanks!

RE: Insurance

We're just starting 'full-timing' as of April 1 (no fooling!) We're going to be staying in the Northwest area at least until August and have found a long-term RV park for that purpose. Since we've never done this full-time thing before and when we bought the 5er planned to do week end camping trips, we insured it for that. What type of coverage is necessary/different with this new set of events? Thanks for all your help! Ed & Pat

RE: Joining the Fulltimers group

After having talked about buying a 5er for 10 years, we did it in October. We've always considered the possibility of full-timing, but not SERIOUSLY until this month when the opportunity availed itself due to jobs, etc. This month we took the leap and are "downsizing" from our 1400 SF duplex in Tacoma to our rig "sursum corda" effective the 1st of April! We are both excited and nervous. Due to the cost of diesel and awaiting the results of a selection process for a religious program we've applied for, we will likely be staying locally until at least August. Because we are so new to this endeavor (been out in the rig two times total) we are going to be depending on advice and information from this website. Thanks for being here! Ed and Pat

Anyone Full-Timing in Arctic Fox?

Wondering if anyone is full-timing in Arctic Fox and if so, how it is working out? Where, what problems, if any, etc. http://www.rv.net/glb/cfb/memberphotos/16330319/rig/PICT0703.jpg width=640

RE: Trip From Hell?

It was Pacific Beach State Park near Pacific Beach Resort. I wouldn't be so concerned if it hadn't leaked in at the ceiling because I thought the same thing you did (wind and sideways rains, etc.) I (Pat) amd the doctor; my DH is retired Army. Thanks for your input.

RE: Trip From Hell?

Thanks so much for all of the great advice! To clarify, --Yes, we WILL check the weather next time; --No, Ed does not drive sideways at 60 mph (thank goodness) --NO LEAKAGE ON SLIDE side of the RV, only the opposite side at the windows; --The TV antenae happened to come with the RV (we didn't order it), but thanks, we will check that rubber foot on the roof. --The levelers (back of the RV) is where we had blocks for stabilizing; even though the surface was CEMENT, when the wind lifted the RV (I guess), the blocks blew out. --The chock blocks, between the wheels, blew away. Our questions now: --Is it even possible to "repair" these things considering we don't know if water went into the walls at the windows? --Since we can see the ceiling water damage and a stain, can this even be repaired and how do we know there isn't permanent damage?

Trip From Hell?

On our maiden voyage, we took our brand new Artic Fox 30' to the Pacific West Coast over the Veteran's Day weekend. We had no idea there was a front moving in and that we would experience heavy rain and winds gusting to 70 mph. We spent Saturday & Sunday nights in the rig, -- on Sunday night we prayed it wouldn't be blown over. The side facing the seawall (and the source of the 70 mph wind and rain) sustained some leakage from around the windows, the hood vent, furnace vent, and the ceiling from around the television antenna even though we have never used it. The blocks under leveling jacks and chocks between wheels all blew into the next campsite. Despite these minor concerns, it was a really great trip. We've been told that regardless of the wind we should not have had leakage anywhere. What do you think?

Mattress in the 5er?

I remember somebody told us when we got our rig, to throw out the mattress and replace it. I can't remember who told us or what they recommended we replace it with. What do you'all think about this? Thanks!

Should pulling be a really smooth ride, or not?

When pulling our new RV home, it seemed liked there was some 'bucking'. This may have been the road, which is E-5 between Tacoma and Seattle, which is really bad. Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions to check this out?
